Orientation contrast

Summary:

  • Imaging by use of flexible windows (positioning and sizing) on the sensor
  • Orientation contrast imaging in colour
  • In addition to orientation contrast also Z- and topography contrast are available
  • High frame rates due to high binning mode
  • No need for any fragile hardware (silicon diodes)
  • Easy operation
  • Compatible with all NORDIF detectors
  • Make FSD (Fore Scatter Detectors) unnecessary
  • Low cost solution (included in N3 acquisition software)

Details:

Among other new functions in the NORDIF 3 acquisition software there are 3 types of contrast imaging: orientation-, topography- and atomic number contrast. The first one, orientation contrast, is based on 3 windows on the sensor (screen) having the colours red, green and blue (RGB). Before selecting a region of interest (ROI) for the pattern acquisition/streaming, the whole area can be scanned and the orientation image will be helpful for the selection of the ROI. By changing the positions and sizes of the 3 windows the contrast will change and make it easier to select the ROI. There is no need for additional hardware like silicon diodes spread around the phosphor screen. The window should be located in the central part og the phosphor screen, which is the area of the strongest signal.
